through a convex lens

i’ve had a string of point-and-shoot cameras in my life. i started out as a kid with a little no-name 110 film camera with a flipflash. remember those? next came a series of cheap drugstore 35mm models. a few years ago, i was the proud owner of a canon elph, 2 megapixels. it was a great little camera, but it was lost to me and i was almost a year without a replacement.

in that interim year i researched and debated what would take its place. the digital medium had become mainstream and the price of my dream-but-within-reason camera dropped. when a combination of tax return and a refurbish program came into my sphere, i was able to purchase my current camera. the canon proshot1 makes me more than happy, combined with its 1 gb card and extra battery. it also takes great pictures.

my camera

my current camera feels like a dream. i can’t believe i actually got this one as i drooled over it for the better part of a year. the only thing i don’t like about it is the reaction speed, but i knew that was a bit of a problem going into the purchase. it takes brilliant pictures and will take even better ones once i learn how to use it properly.

my photos are not available for use as stock imagery. if you would like to use one of my photos, please contact me and we’ll see if we can work something out. thanks!

jean d’alluye

this gallery is part of my on-going photo study of the effigy of jean d’alluye, a knight of the crusades. he ‘lives’ at the cloisters in nyc. he’s been dubbed ‘my knight’ by my friends and i like to visit him often. the most recent pictures are always first.

the cloisters

these photos were taken at the cloisters museum in nyc on march 28, 2006. i decided to experiment with taking black and white shots, as opposed to simply desaturating the photos later in photoshop. i found myself looking for shadows and light that would show up best in the greyscale spectrum rather than just the ‘best shot’.
