links to the past…

saw king crimson in concert last night. they were outstanding, of course. the interesting part for me was seeing where they fit into my brain.

see, i started listening to them in college. that was a good twelve years ago. i still have the albums. still have the tshirt from the last show i went to, way back when.

my tastes have changed so much since then. that was my prog rock period, discovering bands like yes, king crimson, frank zappa, dream theater. then i moved into a whole singer-songwriter/folkie phase. nowadays it’s all about the indie rock for me, so it was interesting to see these old guys again.

the music held up for me. it was a challenging listen (more like going to listen to jazz than rocking out) and i found myself picking out different aspects than i used to notice. all in all, a good time. and the nokia theater was really, really nice.

as promised…

it’s the face of boe!

dunno why, but i’ve just totally latched onto him. he’s simply a minor doctor who alien (a good guy, as far as i can tell) but something about him reeled me in. i was figuring when i started that he was going to be way too difficult, what with all his wrinkles and bulbous appendages and such, but i had a blast drawing him.

ink on paper. go me. :P

face-of-boe

do not underestimate the power of boe…

nice, quiet day at work. chatted with my underling, cleaned out my purse, did some planning for stuff i want to get done soon.

and then i drew the face of boe which made me exceedingly happy. (it’s a doctor who thing, just ignore me) i’ll scan and post later tonight.

we just had a big ol’ thunderstorm blow through. it started with a headache, then came lightning and thunder, then the sky opened up. seems to be passing now, but wow, what a mess!

*sigh* just waiting for my clearance to go home.

things that preserve my last bit of sanity #257…

thursday is for making desktop wallpaper!

today it was torchwood as i stumbled across a very high res version of some promo photos from season 1. found out recently that both seasons are offered on itunes, so i’ll probably get around to downloading from there. i’m not dying over special features and such for this show, just the episodes. and the price is much better than the dvds as well.

okay that was a bit more rambly than i planned. here’s the goodie:

the post with no purpose…

feel like i should be posting something, but i’ve not much to say so i’ll just ramble about doctor who for a bit.

martha has yet to really grow on me. she’s okay, but she’s trying a bit too hard to get the doctor’s attention and let me just say she is definitely not rose. *pouts* much as i don’t like things to turn over too often, i admit i’ll be fine with seeing her go.

of course i reserve the right to change my mind.

got my wheels aligned and that meant a morning with the mom. got ihop, went to the craft store and got yarn for my doctor dolls (yay! oh yay!) and generally had a decent time. much better than being at work.

speaking of work, it seems that everyone got their desks cleared in july so they could go on vacation in august. this means i went crazy for a couple weeks there, but things seem to be quieting down. *crosses fingers* i need a bit more of a break before things go crazy again in the fall. if this continues, i’ll try to reclaim that little schedule i had going earlier in the summer where i was working on learning software, etc.

going to see the mummy tonight. yes, i heard it’s not very good, but frankly all i’m expecting out of it is running around and lots of explosions. also, we’re seeing it for free and who can argue with free?

yay for today!

sometimes i lay in bed before getting up and dream up the ultimate computer network for our house. it involves a computer-run media center, many redundant terabytes backup drives and a big networked laser printer.
