domestic goddesses love the decemberists…

the melancholy has all but faded at last. focusing now on getting holiday gifts done and making the big software switch at work. must get photos of my finished projects taken and up! it was cloudy over the weekend, so too dark for good photos.

it is freezing (literally) outside. we’re at about twenty degrees below the average norm for november. huzzah. the air is cold and clear and i get to wear my awesome grey coat and make use of my new wristwarmers. the ground crunches when i walk on it. ’tis bliss.

i’m also drinking tea like a mad woman. seems to be the only thing able to keep me warm. i’m in pretty dire need of a restash run. i’m not out yet, but some of my favorites are running rather low.

stayed home sick from work yesterday. woke up dizzy (sinuses? weather change? inner ear infection?) and very tired. decided that i needed soup. made two big pots (one beany/potato-y and one green and vegetable-y) from recipes of my own devising. then decided i needed to bake. made cornbread. scrounged the cupboards and discovered i had the ingredients to make oatmeal raisin cookies. made those. while the cookies baked i organized the everest-sized mound of plastic containers in the closet.

when the hell did i turn into a 1950s housewife?

at any rate, by the time the soup and baking were done, i was wiped out, but feeling better. spent the evening crocheting (i am a DOMESTIC GODDESS PAR EXCELLENCE) then trundled off to bed.

am currently trying to re-stimulate my music-listening muse. got a book from the library called ‘1,000 Recordings to Hear Before You Die’. it’s filled with tons of things i’ve not heard and a bazillion things i own, but forgot i had or at least neglected for many a moon.

i need to get my own copy so i can mark it up, check off the stuff i’ve got or have heard, and help me make lists of things to get my hands on. when i hit a music rut, this will be a great tool to rejuvenate the ears.

and on that note (ha-ha) i’m off to reload my ipod.

sometimes i lay in bed before getting up and dream up the ultimate computer network for our house. it involves a computer-run media center, many redundant terabytes backup drives and a big networked laser printer.
