artsy-fartsy…

went to the Van Gogh exibit at MoMA this afternoon. the amazing flash website has the whole exhibit and i recommend it highly. it was incredible. really got to me, just looking at those thick brush strokes and dense, rich colors. i love how on some of his paintings, the raw canvas shows through.

mostly, though, it felt like a big ol’ kick in the rear. i feel like a session musician, a craftsman as opposed to an artist. i feel like someone who gets paid to overthink art. this is bad. must fix now! it’s making me look at design differently. it was a good reminder that design is not art, no matter how pretty. they serve different purposes.

i’m also thinking about what kind of art i would like to make. what will keep me enthralled? what does keep me enthralled on a regular basis? what subject matter do i fail to tire of, no matter how long i look at it? must think on this.

in the mean time, while that marinates i’m working on my yarn stash. omg, it’s so much larger than i thought. somehow my skeins have multiplied when i wasn’t paying attention. i have photographic evidence to support my claim. note that the bags in the back there are full of yarn for specific projects.

it’s a good thing i’m on a knitting/crochet kick, isn’t it?

sometimes i lay in bed before getting up and dream up the ultimate computer network for our house. it involves a computer-run media center, many redundant terabytes backup drives and a big networked laser printer.
