links to the past…

saw king crimson in concert last night. they were outstanding, of course. the interesting part for me was seeing where they fit into my brain.

see, i started listening to them in college. that was a good twelve years ago. i still have the albums. still have the tshirt from the last show i went to, way back when.

my tastes have changed so much since then. that was my prog rock period, discovering bands like yes, king crimson, frank zappa, dream theater. then i moved into a whole singer-songwriter/folkie phase. nowadays it’s all about the indie rock for me, so it was interesting to see these old guys again.

the music held up for me. it was a challenging listen (more like going to listen to jazz than rocking out) and i found myself picking out different aspects than i used to notice. all in all, a good time. and the nokia theater was really, really nice.

sometimes i lay in bed before getting up and dream up the ultimate computer network for our house. it involves a computer-run media center, many redundant terabytes backup drives and a big networked laser printer.
