all hail the mighty mixtape…

there’s a huge mixtape vibe going on in my corner of the universe lately. one thing is quite noticeable about these compliations, they’re being called mixes or mixtapes. it seemed for a little while that the word ‘playlist’ was going to win out, but it would appear us old-school die-hards are keeping the origins of the newbie word ‘playlist’ alive in the lingua franca.

i’ve not got time at the moment to write much about my current infatuation, so i’ll let the ‘net speak for me instead:

first an article from ‘the independent’ on the resurrection of the artform.

an international, old-school, physical tape project.

and a couple of places to find ‘net mixtapes and make/share your own. this one seems to be the nicest presentation, with covers and such.

and for those worried about copyright stuff, these places are streaming from stuff that’s already out on the web somewhere and they also don’t have downloading options, just streaming.

happy listening!

sometimes i lay in bed before getting up and dream up the ultimate computer network for our house. it involves a computer-run media center, many redundant terabytes backup drives and a big networked laser printer.
