preparations…

i definitely feel like i’m in a preparing stage of whatever is coming next for me. i’ve got this planner thing going on where i’m organizing all my open and possible projects. it’s really helping me clear my head out and cleaning the slate so that i can focus on my three main projects of the moment. when i had the idea last week, i didn’t think i’d actually sit down and get it all done, but i’m almost there. i’ve even got a very simple, straight-forward format so that when other ideas come to me i can simply scribble them down and return to whatever else was going on without worrying that i’ve lost the thread.

to further this preparatory feeling, my cabinets came this morning! i’ll be taking my ‘before’ pics when i get home and then constructing the massive things. 92 lbs meant i couldn’t even lift them on my own and once they’re settled, they won’t be moving again so i’ve to to be sure of where they’re going. the next couple of evenings will then be spent getting all my stuff put into them. mom is taking me out on monday to get any bins or baskets and such that i’ll need. so exciting!

i feel like next week’s vacation has such a wealth of potential and i’m doing my best to ensure that i leave it open and free. monday is the visit with mom and my dentist appointment. saturday is the cloisters and drawing day. other than that, i’ve no plans. sure there are a lot of things i’d like to accomplish and things that i would really like to do, but i’m pushing all of it out of my head and just focusing on clearing my palette before friday evening.

in other news, dear chess went to the vet’s last night. he’s developed horner’s syndrome from the ear infection. this is what’s causing his left side to be all wonky. it throws off his equilibrium and also means he can’t blink or produce tears on that side. basically, it’s a semi-paralysis on that side of his body. poor baby! he’s on steroids and eye drops and more meds and hopefully he’ll start getting better soon. he’s being pretty good about the whole thing and is working very hard to learn how to compensate for his body’s shortcomings. it’s something watching him work out how to jump up on things, he keeps trying and practicing.

and i have decided that all office buildings should be equipt with screens and windows that can open. it’s an absolutely gorgeous day outside and i’m stuck in here. i’m always torn on days like this because i can go eat lunch or take a walk outside, but i know that once i do it will be like torture to come back in. oh well, i suppose the fresh air will be worth it.

oh, and just as an aside and for my own records, i saw pulp fiction on saturday and ocean’s twelve last night. i ended up pretty ambivalent about pulp fiction. seems that almost all the best lines were in the trailer that i’ve seen a bazillion times (at least the star warsian spoof version). not that i didn’t like it, i did. sort of. it’s weird to see a movie and come out at the end with no opinion either way. i know it was supposed to be ground breaking and all that and yes the performances were great, but after years of build up, it just didn’t live up to the hype for me.

ocean’s twelve was good. that’s about all i can say about it. i thought the julia roberts bit was a neat twist. the plot got just a tiny bit confusing, though i suspected what was going on. i kind of liked the fact that the whole thing was a bit hard to follow, it meant that i’ll be likely to watch it again to see if i can pick up on the rest of the details. and yes, i’ll definitely watch 13 when i next get in the mood for a heist movie.

and lastly, i joined the netflix crowd last night. kinda excited about that because even though i went with the cheapy one-at-a-time plan, that still means i can get my hands on lots of stuff the library and blockbuster don’t carry. they also have a lot of tai chi dvds which means i can try some of them out before i buy them. huzzah!

okay, time to get back to this whole planning thing.

sometimes i lay in bed before getting up and dream up the ultimate computer network for our house. it involves a computer-run media center, many redundant terabytes backup drives and a big networked laser printer.
