this is the eighth book in the ‘anita blake: vampire hunter’ series. okay, i’m not even going to try to justify this one. it’s a potboiler. there isn’t much bodice ripping, much of that being replaced with some taught suspense, but this isn’t just a run of the mill vampire story.
i admit i’ve devoured […]
blue moon - laurell k. hamilton
the year 1000 - robert lacey & danny danziger
after struggling through the second volume of runciman’s crusades history, i decided to give myself a breather before digging in to tackle the final book. ‘the year 1000′ was a perfect choice. describing the daily life of the english around the turn of the last millennium, i got a much better sense of who some […]
one day i’ll figure it all out…
*sigh* so here i go again, making adjustments to my creative life in my eternal search for the flow.
sorry it’s been so long since i’ve posted, btw. just haven’t felt like it lately and haven’t been sure what i would want to write about. anyway, about those changes…
the writing well has dried up again. […]
it turns my brain to mush so i cannot feel the sun…
meh. life is crappy at the moment with occassional lovely bright spots.
headaches, lots of sickness going around (though not my own, i am only a carrier thus far), bits of hormone-induced moodiness. all accompanied by general malaise and lack of creative energy.
i’ll not torture you all with my negative ramblings, so i’m going underground […]
ramble, ramble…
i enjoyed a decadent evening last night. all i did was lay on the couch and read. ah, such luxury!
of course i stayed up a bit too late and that means i’m pretty zonked today. and the weather’s doing wacky things to my head as well, so the pounding and aching is kind of preventing […]

sometimes i lay in bed before getting up and dream up the ultimate computer network for our house. it involves a computer-run media center, many redundant terabytes backup drives and a big networked laser printer.
what can i say about this book? it's a lovely memoir of julia child's arrival in paris, her journey learning the language and discovering her life's passion in cooking.
the whole story is special to me, having grown up watching her show on television. mrs. child taught me a great many things about cooking (including the fact that mistakes are okay) and her warm, engaging style comes through in the text. i could hear her warbly voice in my head the entire time i was reading.
