how much is too much?

debating on if and how to share my drawing/art progression for the coming year.

i’m pretty positive that i’ll be posting anything that i consider a ‘finished work’ even if it’s not completely awesome (which covers quite a bit). digital stuff, tactile stuff, it’ll all go up, no question.

i’m also almost positive that i’ll not be posting stuff from my art journals. that will be like a regular writing journal and will most likely be filled with very vulnerable stuff that i just can’t face sharing with my family, never mind the rest of the interwebs. i’ve gotten so used to blogging that i think it’s going to take me a little while to get used to opening up that much on paper. granted, i don’t self-censor much, but i know it does happen. either that or i simply don’t put the thoughts down at all, which is what i’m trying to fix here.

anyway, that leaves the middling ground. the drawing practice. does anyone really want to see page after page of crappy sketches and experiments? maybe, maybe not. do i want to take the time on a regular basis to scan all that stuff in? hmm. probably not. still, it could be interesting to put it all out there. definitely a brave step forward and maybe if i commit to posting that stuff i’ll keep myself motivated.

i guess some of this line of thinking is inspired by my woefully-underused deviant art account. if i have something i want to make the most use of it and that place has a whole area devoted to ’scraps’ (as opposed to the galleries). it just sits there daring me to share, to put stuff out there and be brave.

*sigh* i think i’ve managed to answer my own question. i want to share the sketches, document this process somehow. now i just need to figure out the practicalities of daily sketching and scanning.

if you'd like to comment on this entry, just drop me a line! thanks!

sometimes i lay in bed before getting up and dream up the ultimate computer network for our house. it involves a computer-run media center, many redundant terabytes backup drives and a big networked laser printer.
