ugh. bad morning. i hate hormones and the monthly thing that they do to my body. much pain. much nausea.
aleve and heating pads are the bomb, but mostly it just takes time. the nausea lingers, but i’m now also feeling very, very hungry. joy.
in other, more uplifting news, i had a nice weekend. saturday was all about getting a few things done and uping the word count. i wandered the library inbetween writing sessions, just to clear my head. while there i picked up my 10k reward (which should be put to use tomorrow evening). i’ll be watching ‘Shaun of the Dead’ for the first time tomorrow. yes, the zombie girl has not actually watched a zombie movie. frankly, i don’t know if i’ll be able to handle it or not. we shall see.
the first part of yesterday was spent at a local museum’s comic book exhibit and convention. the exhibit was cool. the con was really neat looking (this was a small and comics only con, not a big fest), but sadly the finances didn’t allow for a purchase and the little trip down ‘artist’s alley’ made me feel guilty. that’s where the guys who actually do this stuff (many of them independent of a publisher) sit and sell their wares. and i couldn’t patronize. let’s just say that’s the last time i go to a con with no money. i did at least leave with further inspiration to get my drawing chops back in order next year.
the later part of the afternoon involved a drive out to a place called ‘Shippen Manor‘, a local colonial era historical site. met the curator a few weeks ago, he’s the blacksmith at wild west city, and we had said we would come up an visit his little museum. very nice time was had, even by those who aren’t the biggest history buffs in my crowd.
afterwards we stopped at one of the local hot dog joints, this one having been there since 1944. that’s right, no veggie burgers or anything to be had, it was french fries for me. my adventerous palette got a work out as i also had my first sampling of one of their unique specialties, fresh buttermilk. anyone ever had buttermilk? it’s like drinking plain, unflavored yogurt. very sour. i drank a few sips and brought the rest home. shall be making biscuits with it or something.
lessee, what else? finished reading ‘A Canticle for Leibowitz‘ last night. strange book. post-apocolyptic nuclear war, published in 1955. i didn’t even really like it that much, but something kept compelling me to read it. very weird, disturbing ending. it’s supposed to be a classic of the genre and i can now say i’ve done my duty as a good sci-fi fan and read it.
i’m reading a filler book now, ‘Maynard and Jennica’, which i’m also not enjoying much. i think i’ve already read enough of it to cleanse my palette and get myself ready to read ‘World War Z’, the ZOMBIE novel. heh.
but enough about all that, right? what about NaNo?
it’s going as well as i could hope after the struggle i had at the very start. last night the 2k came much easier, even though i actually had to sit and do it all in one shot instead of breaking it up across the day. i don’t know if the plot is working yet, or not, but there is momentum.
okay, back to that writing thing.
