weekend update…

man, i worked my butt of this weekend.

went to the parentals’ and helped go through some of gram’s stuff. i’m now the proud owner of my great-grandmother’s wedding band, dated with the inscription WJ to SC 1.10.1900

when i got home, i headed into the basement and did a bunch of cleaning, going through a lot of clothes and a few other boxes for stuff to chuck or pass on to charity. i also condensed a ton of other stuff and made it all at least look neater on the surface.

but that wasn’t enough, for some reason i got the cleaning bug and found some strange wellspring of energy. (autumn cleaning instead of spring?) yesterday i pulled my room apart and sorted through even more clothes, finally ditching some things that i well and truly have to admit that i’m not ever going to wear again. also cleaned up the rest of my room in general, remaking the bed and putting CDs away and such.

the clothes thing got me thinking and i realized that i have about five pairs of pants that are about two sizes too small for me. these are my favoritest pants ever and i want to fit into them again. yup, i’m getting back to my walking thing. this time, though, i’m going to be weighing myself and keeping track. i need the inspiration!

when the room was done i moved into the kitchen where i commenced upon a whirlwind cooking extravaganza the likes of which have not been witness for a long, long time. with my ultimate playlist blasting from the computer, i made zucchini muffins, stewed tofu with corn and tomatoes, white bean with sweet potato ragout, alphabet soup, southwestern black bean and rice salad, and mock chicken salad. whew!

when all of that was done, i sat down at the computer and set about playing with my music files. i installed the new version of winamp, which is very nice because it likes to play with my mp3 player and no longer crashes. i also had a wonderful time making playlists for nano. perhaps i’ll post them here when i get it all done. one is a general ‘vibe’ list that sets the mood for writing. one is for actual writing (all instrumental stuff). the other two are mixes that one of my characters gives to the MC. i kept smiling as i was digging through my tracks because i would listen to something and go ‘yeah, that’s exactly something he would put on here’. i might play with this idea a bit more and see if i can get inside my antagonist’s head through music.

i ended up going to bed around 2 am, due to technical difficulties involving the aforementioned mp3 player. i set my clock, all ready to drag my butt out of bed early to start walking and you know what happened? i reset the time and neglected to arm the actual alarm. ugh. i got out of bed very late this morning and just made it to work on time. damn.

i guess what i’ll be doing tonight is walking as soon as i get home and then put my hair dye in, let that sit for a few hours and then take my second shower of the day. grrr. must get to bed earlier tonight!

sometimes i lay in bed before getting up and dream up the ultimate computer network for our house. it involves a computer-run media center, many redundant terabytes backup drives and a big networked laser printer.
