’tis a bit late…

but i wanted to do at least a partial blog entry on my weekend and birthday and such.

before i dig in though, i’m very happy to say that i upgraded my wordpress install tonight. it had a couple of hiccups, but i was able to fix the problems with very little teeth-gnashing and now i’ve got version 2.3 up and running (huzzah the new tagging feature!). i also signed up for a twitter account because the nanowrimo site has one and i wanted to watch what was going on over there easily. i stuck the twitter thing at the top of my blog, but it seems to load slowly, so i may take it down soon. when i redesign, i’ll try to place it so it loads last and doesn’t effect the rest of the site.

but i’m digressing into web geekdom when there’s so many other forms of geekdom i need to talk about. :P

the weekend itself was relatively quiet. went out with mom and dad, etc. to a japanese steakhouse (they always have a veggie option and the show is fun) for my birthday and their anniversary (which was the 21st). sunday i didn’t do much. in fact, all i remember at the moment is that i was able to fulfill my goal of staying in my pajamas for the entire day.

monday there was a wonderful trip to the library and some reading. very relaxing! i think i did some computer clean up/blog backing up somewhere in there as well.

tuesday was the main event of my birthday. i got an embarrassing haul of stuff. i’m loved. and my nearest and dearest know me so well, it’s almost not funny. except that it’s very funny. one highlight was a little, fancy, paper bag with a little jewelry box inside. only thing is when i opened it, there was no earrings or necklace. there was a 2GB usb drive. ha!

when breakfast and gifts were done we had the main event. this will sound kind of silly at first, but we hung out at a mall all day. now, this wasn’t just any mall, this is the palisades center, one of the biggest malls in the country. there’s an imax and and amc theaters, an ice rink, a ferris wheel and a bunch of other stuff.

it was fun and relaxing (which i really needed). cruised the whole mall, stopping in the apple store to drool at the new ipods, gamestop where i bought a gaming controller for my computer, ate sushi and tempura, shot zombies and played pool at dave & busters and did a bunch of other awesome stuff.

when we got home, i was sequestered in the living room while things were set up in the kitchen. when the door was opened, there was a lovely little table setting of blue tablecloth, toile paper plates (all to match my hair) and a ‘fudgie the whale’ ice cream cake. to top it all off, there was a grid of balloons over the table. my luddite roommate took to the internet and figured out how to use my binary clock and recreated it on the wall so that it read ‘32′. how kickass is that?

with the slightest bit of sugar jolt, i plugged in my controller only to be greatly disappointed when i couldn’t get Riven to run on my machine. not even sure if the controller would work with it, but i was still pretty bummed. with no other games on the computer, i hit the net and downloaded the ratatouille game demo and played that well past when i should have been in bed.

much like right now.

so, that was the day in an awfully big nutshell. i had a lovely time, got some amazing things and relaxed. i think i’m going to do the same thing next year.

if you'd like to comment on this entry, just drop me a line! thanks!

sometimes i lay in bed before getting up and dream up the ultimate computer network for our house. it involves a computer-run media center, many redundant terabytes backup drives and a big networked laser printer.
