probably my two biggest foci right now are consumables and my personal ecological footprint. no, i’ve not watched ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ yet, though it is in the house when i’m ready. instead, i’m just diving in and doing what i can to fix some things.
probably the simplest things available, things that take almost no effort at all are filling my tires (improves gas mileage which is both a environment and money saver) and reducing my phantom power usage. many of the electronics we use continue to suck power even when they are turned off. last weekend i went through the house and rewired things to reduce this drain.
we need to have the phone, modem and light plugged in at all times, but i rerouted my two surge protectors at my computer station so my computer itself, along with my speakers, scanner and montior, etc, are all cut off from sucking power. ditto my little entertainment set up in my bedroom.
will it be enough to save the world? probably not, but we have to start somewhere and reducing our extraneous power usage is simple and easy.
go ahead. give it a shot. you’ll feel better.
oh, and Happy World Water Day!
