meh…

it’s been one of those days. could have been much, much better, but of course it could always be worse and for the fact that it was not, i am thankful. did that make sense?

anyway, went to the library today to pick up my Runciman, all excited to read the classics of the Crusades histories and, ugh, they only sent volume III over from the other library. grrrr. it is in the catalog as a three volume set, one would think they would have sent the set!

so it’ll be off to the Clifton library for me, perhaps tomorrow, perhaps on Monday, to pick up the other two volumes. as i’m not going to be able to purchase my own copies until after christmas, i figured i’d just get my hands on them and start reading.

so the big three projects for the next year? website, novel and crusades history. oh! and french and latin! but then those are part of the crusades studies so perhaps they don’t count? hmm.

i’m also pretty realistic that learning a language or two is a lot of work and will probably be the thing i do the worst at as well.

and no, i’ve not forgotten the importance of the zine. getting two issues of that sucker out will be a huge deal.

add on the cooking enthusiasm and the usual ‘i need to be reading more’ and it’s no wonder that i don’t watch television. who the hell has time to watch television?

speaking of watching things, we watched Fellowship last night/this morning (as in 2 am) and it was just as lovely and amazing as it has ever been. gah. i cried when Gandalf fell, something i’ve not done for the last couple of times we’ve watched it as i know he comes back in the next flick.

and on that note, i think i’m going to go eat something and possibly watch Kinsey. took that and Kenneth Branaugh’s Henry V and a version of MacBeth that Ian McKellan and Judi Dench did ages ago. i remember seeing clips of it on the McKellan ‘Inside the Actor’s Studio’ and it looks awesome.

i’m very embarrassed that i’ve taken Hamlet out from the library twice now and i’ve not watched it. this would be the Kenneth Branaugh version. i think the fact that it’s on TWO video tapes intimidates me on some level. dunno why, seeing as i’ve just watched the extended Fellowship.

the dissection on the novel is going slowly. i stopped work on it this week, picked it up again today and got a little done. i just don’t seem at all focused on it at work, which is annoying. i expect things should be quiet for the next couple weeks at work and i’m trying to find a way to take advantage of that. i don’t want to simply fuck around on the internet the whole day, that feels like such a waste of perfectly good creative time. i’m hoping i’ll get some of my web studying done, if i can just get myself focused.

stomach is rumbling here, so i’m off to find some food and then curl up with Braveheart and a movie. (that’s Braveheart the cat and a completely unrelated movie.)

sometimes i lay in bed before getting up and dream up the ultimate computer network for our house. it involves a computer-run media center, many redundant terabytes backup drives and a big networked laser printer.
