inspiration…

i visited a site i’ve not checked in on in quite some time. neilgaiman.com. on his homepage, there are links to him doing interviews and such for ‘fragile things’. the best one, though, was a link to this site. a full hour and fifty-three minute reading, much like the one we saw him do on his ‘last angel’ tour years ago.

i could listen to him read the phone book. he’s got such a friendly, lovely lilt to his voice and when mixed with stories that are lovely and funny, it’s just classic.

also read bits of his blog and just thought about his approach to writing in general and his style. so loose and easy to read, but with these shades of depth. i would not think to try to emulate him, his style is not mine, but i do aspire to that ease of language.

it was the perfect thing to watch going into nanowrimo. just like the ray bradbury i’ve been reading, it’s about writing, but has nothing to do with the actual act of putting stories on the page.

sometimes i lay in bed before getting up and dream up the ultimate computer network for our house. it involves a computer-run media center, many redundant terabytes backup drives and a big networked laser printer.
