grr…

been trying to get in here all day to record some thoughts and i just haven’t been able to do so. fooey on work.

watched High Fidelity last night (yippee library!).

why have i not seen this movie sooner? i read the Nick Hornby book a few years back and enjoyed it immensely. i think i’ll dub his writing ‘dick lit’ to go with ‘chick lit’ as it seems to cover very similar ground only from the male perspective, albeit a bit more intelligently. not quite romance, not coming of age as the characters are too old for that, but that familiar ‘wandering around not knowing what to do with one’s life’ feeling that so many people battle. and that ‘dick’ is short for the generic name ‘richard’, btw. geez, you people have your minds in the gutter!

anywho, Jack Black was awesome, loved John (and Joan) Cusack, the sound track kicked ass and the way the main character crafted mix tapes with very specific running orders reminded me so, so much of the bear. i actually laughed out loud all by myself in the house. the boys thought i’d gone insane. must own this movie and now i’m dying to see Grosse Pointe Blank again.

in other news, i dreamt another big story idea. it’s set on a Mars colony and involves solar flares and saving the Earth from destruction and all that happiness. straight up, slightly cliched sci-fi. i felt damn smart for about thirty seconds about the solar flare idea until reality set in and i realized how much work it is going to take to write this one.

needless to say, it has gone to the back burner, but the idea has been recorded in my new purple notebook that seems to be enjoying it’s position as my ‘ideas that have no right showing up now because i’m trying to plan my nano dammit’ notebook.

meh. live long and prosper.

peace out.

(i’ve been watching ‘And You Don’t Stop - 30 years of Hip Hop’ on VH1 classic. beware!)

sometimes i lay in bed before getting up and dream up the ultimate computer network for our house. it involves a computer-run media center, many redundant terabytes backup drives and a big networked laser printer.
