silent cinema

we watched Metropolis last night. first time i’d seen it. it was simultaneously funny, creepy, inspiring and amazing. you have to be in the right mood for it, but what an experience when you are.

after watching it i did a bunch of screencaps of it and, in the process, skimmed through the whole picture a second time. pieces of the puzzle fell into place more fully and the brilliance of the imagery and complexity of the narrative gripped me in a more full and rich way than it had on the first watching.

the sets were outstanding and the amount of work that went into this picture had to be unfathomable in 1927.

i loved it, as i hoped i would.

sometimes i lay in bed before getting up and dream up the ultimate computer network for our house. it involves a computer-run media center, many redundant terabytes backup drives and a big networked laser printer.
