doh! it’s been a little while, hasn’t it? so sorry!
all the little tidbits of my creative life are now scattered throughout the internet. there is a lot to keep up with, but it’s definitely keeping me on my toes. i’m more aware when i’ve missed something than i was before. lists, multiple blogs and deadlines may seem cumbersome to some. to me they are a means to keeping me motivated on those days when i’m just not feeling it.
times when i slack off are more immediately visible now. the lack of checkmarks on my little project list are simple reminders that i need to push a little harder and keep my creative flow going. it’s interesting to note that i can never really say i’m ‘blocked’. because of the varied endeavors i’ve got my hands into there is always something i can pick up and work on when nothing else is moving.
it also keeps my brain churning with new ideas on how to integrate all my little projects. can that thing i wrote last week be incorporated into the zine? is that piece i did for illustration friday worthy of adding to my website? what podcast or new music can i listen to while knitting?
the last two weeks i’ve not done as well as i would have liked with this list. this week i’m trying to do better, not putting off everything until thursday and friday and feeling like it’s all crammed in. sustained focus has never been my strongest suit, nor balance or using my time wisely (something i was always terrible at in school) but i’m working to overcome that. hopefully a day will come when the list will be unneccessary.
until then, i’m just gonna keep trucking along, finishing items and feeling a little bit of satisfaction and accomplishment every time my pen makes that little chur-uck noise that means i’ve finished another item on my list. and this is not about quantity over quality. if that was the case, i’d be cramming in a lot more things. a check simply means that i’ve done something towards the project. even simply opening up a document to remind myself what needs to be done is enough to be worthy of the check.
and now, back to work!
