all i can say is that i’m so glad that george luca…

all i can say is that i’m so glad that george lucas has allowed others to write star wars novels, children’s books and comics because otherwise i would have to admit that it is over.
most of my 29+ years has been spent as a fan of these films. yes, episodes 1 and 2 could have done with a little tweek here and there. (hint george: things play soooo much better if you would put the deleted scenes back into the flick. it worked for peter jackson, go on, give it a shot.) in general, though, i thought they were just fine in moving the story along and setting things up for what many of us knew would be the grande finale. other fans really bug me because lucas didn’t make the films how they thought they should be done. (well, smarty-pants, why didn’t you do think it up yourself, then?)
putting all that aside, on wednesday evening and again last night, my family and i went to see the final installment.
i am still mostly speechless.
yes, i can discuss certain aspects. we can disect bits of dialog that opened up new questions, and i can speculate on what happened to the galaxy in the ensuing 20 years. but to sum it up as a whole. can’t be done, but i’ll try.
most simply put, this is an opera in every sense of the word. betrayal, tragedy, death, you name it. it also changes the way one views not just the preceding movie, but every other moment in all of the 5 other films. there is no longer 1st trilogy, 2nd trilogy. there is one complete movie, large in scope as the lord of the rings, and requiring a similar length time to view.
just incredible. i cannot wait until there is a sextology watching later this year. my butt muscles are already in training.

and as if all of that wasn’t enough, today i found out that there was a mon mothma scene that was cut! special featured dvd land, here i come!

if you'd like to comment on this entry, just drop me a line! thanks!

sometimes i lay in bed before getting up and dream up the ultimate computer network for our house. it involves a computer-run media center, many redundant terabytes backup drives and a big networked laser printer.
