The Peter Gabriel concert saga will continue at a later date (probably this weekend as I am going to see him again tonight! AHHH!)
Right now, I’m up to my elbows in frustration and anger at our government. Wiretapping, war-mongering, faith-based initiatives and the like have made things pretty scary. Now, I understand that our country is still one of the most tolerant in the world. Fine, I accept that, for now. But, remember, a small green alien once said “Once you start down the Dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny.”
I have fears, okay. I’m writing this blog right now with the knowledge that it is going out onto the internet where anyone can read it. I’ve written anti-war sentiments and minor details about my alternative religious practices here. I don’t ever want to feel like running away to another country is the only option I’ve got in order to escape oppression and imprisonment.
Contrary to popular belief, this country was not founded on religious freedom. It was started by a bunch of religious zealots (the Puritans) who got kicked out of a bunch of other countries for their own intolerance. The country was actually founded by the Freemasons (if anyone actually knows what they do, I’d love to know), a secret society. A shaky start, at best. Yet here we are over two hundred years later. So, what have we got? Well, religious zealots running the Attorney General’s office and a secret court deciding that it’s okay to tap into private citizens computers and phone lines on the premise that we all might be involved in “homeland security” breaches. Not a good sign.
I don’t want anyone to get me wrong though, I do have a love of country. We have some magificent geological features and flora and fauna. Our culture is becoming more of a melting pot everyday and that blending of cultures creates some wonderful opportunities for us all to understand each other and ourselves better. I simply do not want to face a day when we are afraid to do and say things that come naturally and normally to us now. September 11th was, at best, a wake up call, not that we are lax in our maintainence of homeland security, but our maintainence of tolerance of other countries, religions and world views. We are hated due to our gluttony and bullying and posturing. No one assigned us police enforcers of the world. That is a title we took for ourselves.
Our fearless leader is now using that excuse to protect his own oil interests and that of his friends and realtives. Just imagine for a moment, if all of the money currently feeding the war machine was redirected toward renewable energy development and implementation. I’m sure we would all have solar panels on our houses and hybrid cars in our driveways by next year.
I’ll get off my soapbox now and let you all think.
Peace and blessed be.
